Our friends York City Knights Ladies came from behind to clinch a 22-14 win over Leeds Rhinos yesterday and finish top of the Betfred Women’s Super League.
Sadly, our sponsored player Kelsey Gentles was withdrawn from the squad with tonsilitis, but she was at Headingly Stadium to enjoy the game and the celebrations.
The league campaign had led to a final-day showdown between York and Leeds to secure the League Leaders Shield, with reigning champions St Helens also in contention if Knights lost.
Leeds started strongly and established a 10-0 lead, which they held until the 33rd minute. But York had made it 10-10 at half-time before pulling further ahead after the break.
Katie Langan and Tara Jane Stanley scored two tries each for York, with Tara Jane also kicking a conversion and two penalties.
