We are excited to announce that we will be partnering with Mendips Raceway to present the 2018 West of England Hot Rod Championship.
One of the longest-established championships for hot rods, the annual race attracts top drivers from throughout the south and west of England and will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27th at the Mendips Raceway oval, near Cheddar.
With their highly-tuned 2-litre engines and lightweight carbon-fibre body shells in the shape of recognisable road cars, hot rods provide a motor sport spectacle which can be seen as a scaled-down version of American NASCAR-style racing or the British Touring Car Championship.
Hot rod racing is strictly non-contact, unlike the stock cars and bangers which often share the programme, so overtaking on the tight oval circuit demands immense skill.
The current West of England champion is veteran saloon and sports car racer, Colin White, a three-time world champion in hot rods who also competes in the televised Ginetta GT4 Supercup.
“Weltch Media has worked with us before on the PR side, and it’s great to have them on board as title sponsors of our main Hot Rod event of the season,” said track promoter Graham Bunter.
The meeting also includes support races for the budget saloon car class, special rods, and the spectacular full-contact action of bangers caravan racing, ‘Caravandalism’, as well as figure-of-eight racing for the three-wheeled Reliant Robins.
“We’re big fans of motorsport, and this is a real thrill to be involved in the West of England Hot Rod championship,” said Weltch Media senior consultant, Andrew Weltch. “I actually started in journalism by writing Hot Rod race reports for the motorsport media and local paper long ago!”
Weltch Media offers public relations and other communications services to the motor sport industry. We recently announced our continuing partnership with Ben Power and Guttercrest Racing in the UK National Legends Car Championship.
