John Rebus – the heavy drinking, rule-breaking detective of Ian Rankin’s best-selling novels and the popular TV series – now takes to the stage in Rebus: Long Shadows, currently touring the UK.
Our companion hyperlocal site, Rhiwbina Info, reviewed its opening night in Cardiff last night (February 5), and described is as “a moody and gripping production”.
Starring Ron Donachie as Rebus and John Stahl as his rival, Big Ger Cafferty, it also boasts Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee Cathy Tyson as DI Siobhan Clarke – although she was replaced admirably by understudy Dani Heron in last night’s performance.
The review added: “Rebus: Long Shadows is not just a crime thriller, but also a fascinating examination of the morality of right and wrong, and the complexities of professional and personal relationships. It will appeal to fans of the novels and TV series, and to anyone who appreciates masterful story-telling and top-quality acting”.

Rebus: Long Shadows runs at Cardiff’s New Theatre until Saturday (February 9), and then visits Cambridge, Newcastle, and Bath.
