Our short film Annalium 8: Sssss had its first big-screen showing in front of a paying audience at the weekend, when it was screened as a curtain-raiser at our local community cinema, Monico Movies, in Rhiwbina, Cardiff.
Producer Andy Weltch was invited to introduce the film before it was shown ahead of the main feature, The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain (1995) – whose writer-director, Christopher Monger had sent a video message from Los Angeles for the screening.
Christopher is from nearby Taffs Well and his film is based on stories about The Garth Hill (or Mountain), just north of Cardiff.
Directed by Andrew Griffin from a script by Robert Lancey, Annalium 8: Sssss is a dark scifi short, produced by Weltch Media and Annalium Films.
In a world where all animal life has been wiped out, a scientist in full bio-hazard kit and with a life-support machine in tow, discovers a young girl, apparently fit and well…
The film stars Francesca Louise White and Minaii Baelfire. Francesca is an award-winning actress who had the main role in our popular lockdown comedy promo video With a T, and Minaii holds the distinction of being the world’s first Black Young Elsa in a stage production of Frozen.
It was premiered as part of the MovieMaker showcase of short films at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff, in September, and the cast and crew reunited for a private screening with supporters later that month.
We’ve now entered the film into several festivals.
