Our sponsored plasyer, Danni Wyatt, scored the winning goal from the penalty spot as Torquay United Women beat Pucklechurch Sports in a pre-season away game yesterday (Sunday 30 July).
In wet and slippery conditions at Brislington, new signing Emma Holligsworth gave Torquay the lead, before the home team equalised and then went 2-1 up from a long-distance free kick.
Danni came on in the second half, as Torquay continued to press for the equaliser, which finally came from team captain Tracey Cross. 
When our former sponsored player Jana Richards was fouled in the penalty area, Tracey told Danni to take the penalty kick, which she placed in the bottom right corner to secure the win.
“We showed a lot of fight, grit and strength to come from behind,” said Danni. “It was a good test for us and we dealt with it well, with the new players slotting in nicely”.
United continue their pre-season campaign against Saltash next weekend
Torquay finished top of the South West Women’s League Premier Division last season to gain promotion to the FA Women’s National League Division 1 (South West) – the fourth tier of the women’s game in England.
We first sponsored Danni in the 2017/18 campaign, when she helped Torquay to third place in the league and to the final of the Devon Cup and won the goal of the season award.
In 2022, she helped Torquay to a sensational victory in the Devon FA Cup Final and was named club player of the season.
And in 2020, she was among our friends who featured in the popular comedy promo video With a T.
