Jamie McInnes , manager of our friends Torquay United Ladies FC, has announced three new appointments – Richard Haydon has joined the club as assistant manager and physio, while Niamh Farrell has been named team captain with Amber Evans vice captain.
The three took up their roles in the team’s 1-0 win at Downend Flyers of Bristol yesterday [Sunday January 13th].
Richard joins Torquay United Ladies with a wealth of experience in soccer throughout South West England. His playing career took him to Bude FC before eventually managing the team. He has also held positions at Hoslworthy FC, Launceston FC and most recently Saltash United, where he is currently team physio.
As a mature student at Plymouth Marjon University, studying Rehabilitation in Sport and Exercise, he is also involved in the coaching staff for the university teams.
“The enthusiasm in the squad is fantastic,” he said. “The players just need more support to improve the technical and tactical sides of their game. This is an exciting time to be joining a club that ply their trade in a high standard of football.”
Speaking of the new leadership team ahead of Sunday’s game, Jamie commented: “I have learnt a lot of about the characters within the side and I feel both Niamh and Amber possess the necessary qualities in abundance to take on the armband duties for the team. The commitment and dedication shown by both Niamh and Amber has been second to none.”
The club, which plays in the South West Women’s Premier League, still has sponsorship opportunities available for businesses and individuals.
