Our national hot rod racer Mark Shelper suffered more bad luck in the latest world championship qualifying round at Hednesford Raceway yesterday (Monday 27 May).
After finishing in the minor places in heat 1, the battery died on the warm up laps for heat 2.
The team swapped it for the spare to start the final from the back of the grid, but about half way through, a rear suspension arm snapped mid-bend. Mark was able to hold on to the wildly mishandling car and avoid hitting the fence that surrounds the quarter-mile oval track.
“It’s very frustrating,” said Mark. “I said before the meeting that we need our luck to change, but it clearly hasn’t!”
The results mean Mark will not qualify as one of the English representatives at the world championship in July.
The Weltch Media logo has been on Mark’s Peugeot 206cc since the start of the 2022 season, continuing our long-standing involvement in motorsport.
Bristol-based Mark made headlines in 2022 by being the only driver from the South West to qualify for the world championship final.
National hot rods are the top level of short track racing in the UK, with sophisticated lightweight production-car replicas whose engines produce around 240bhp.
