The notoriously frightening horror play Ghost Stories is touring the UK for the first time.
Written by versatile actor-writer-magician Andy Nyman and League of Gentlemen co-creator Jeremy Dyson, this portmanteau-style horror has retained its mystique for a decade, with audiences and reviewers asked not to reveal its secrets.
Our senior consultant Andrew Weltch reviewed its opening night in Cardiff (February 25) for our companion hyperlocal site, Rhiwbina Info, and described it as “disturbing and nightmarish,” adding that it was “without doubt the scariest theatre experience of my life”.
Our host is Professor Goodman (Joshua Higgott), an expert in parapsychology, who presents cases from his files – featuring characters played by Paul Hawkyard, Gus Gordon, Richard Sutton, and Lloyd McDonagh.
“Each story is gripping in its own right”, he adds,”brilliantly performed and ingeniously staged. The sound design and lighting are also central in building tension and forcing home the scream-inducing scares.”

Ghost Stories plays in Cardiff until Saturday (February 29). The tour then moves to Canterbury, York, Richmond, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Sheffield, and Southampton.
