Our sponsored player Danni Wyatt made an unexpected appearance in Torquay United Women’s final game of the season yesterday [Sunday May 16], and scored a goal in a 3-3 tie at St Austell Ladies.
Danni was injured in training during the week and was not expected to play.
Despite missing several key players, Torquay took the lead, before the hosts equalised. Danni scored the second Torquay goal, when the keeper dropped the ball and Danni chipped it over her to take the lead.
Sasha Mole then scored a screamer to make it 3-1. “Around the 75-minute mark, I asked to be replaced as I didn’t want to risk damaging my foot which would keep me out of training, so I left the field of play,” said Danni.
“We were so unfortunate to concede two goals in those last 15 minutes drawing us level at 3-3. It was a great game, and it just goes to show how much we have grown and changed. Everyone worked so hard today – I feel so proud to be a part of this football club!”
Our other sponsored Torquay player Nikki Caunce is currently sidelined with a knee injury, and our sponsored York City Knights Ladies rugby league player Kelsey Gentles was rested yesterday due to injury.
York beat Featherstone Rovers 42-14 to secure their first Women’s Super League win of the season. Savannah Andrade was the player of the match for her impressive performance, which included scoring a spectacular try after a 60-metre dash late in the first half.
