Our sponsored player, Danni Wyatt, has praised the performance from her Torquay United Women teammates yesterday (Sunday 4 February), when they clinched an important home win over Southampton.
It was the first game since the new management team of Tracey Cross and Jake Ellis took over, with Danni remaining as club captain and club welfare lead.
“It was an amazing result yesterday,” said Danni, “and a superb performance from all the girls.
“Ella Stephens played magnificent to put us a goal in front in the first half, Southampton equalised but Torquay didn’t let up and played fantastic football throughout the second half too which led to Emily Eaton bringing down a well placed cross and finding the net in the third minute of stoppage time!
“The push the girls gave and the spirit from the club is fantastic at the moment, Cross and Ellis’s first game in charge and some pieces of our puzzle were put together this weekend, we’ve been working hard in training on specific things and that really showed.
“I’m thrilled for the newly appointed management duo and hopefully we see some more results come in our favour, stabilising our rightful position in the FA Womens National League. Torquay forever!”
This is Torquay’s first season in the FA National League, in the fourth tiers of women’s soccer in England. United gained promotion after finishing top of the South West Women’s League Premier Division last season.
We first sponsored Danni in the 2017/18 campaign, when she helped Torquay to third place in the league and to the final of the Devon Cup, and won the goal of the season award.
In 2022, she helped Torquay to a sensational victory in the Devon FA Cup Final and was named club player of the season.
And in 2020, she was among our friends who featured in the popular comedy promo video With a T.
