The winners of the World Sports Photography Awards have been announced today (Thursday 9 January) and in our latest blog post we look at some of the best.
Gabriel Medina thanking God with this celebration and getting the best score of the surfing Olympics history. The alignment of Gabriel’s relaxed body with his surfboard, connected by the leash, his feet on a cloud, makes this photo unreal and inevitably attracts the eye of the observer.
A photograph of Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina scooped the top prize this year, taken by Tahiti-based French photographer Jerome Brouillet at the 2024 Olympic Games in Teahupo’o, French Polynesia.
The awards attracted some 13,000 entries from almost 2,000 professional sports photographers around the world.
As well as overall awards, there are separate awards in each sport category, including soccer, cricket, baseball, ice hockey, American football, golf, martial arts, rugby, and motor sport.
