Our Weltch Media-backed sim racers had another successful outing this week, with drivers from the RD Simsport teams taking first and second in the sprint race.
Wednesday’s (8 January) races at Daytona road course were the latest rounds of the Backfire Simsport TCR Challenge.
The RD Simsport cars are carrying the Weltch Media logo throughout the season, which takes the TCR touring cars to major circuits around the world.
The opening sprint race saw victory for Matias Pentillä (RD IV) ahead of James Holman (RD), whpo also clocked the fastest lap. Other places went to: 13th Martin Shirley (1st Pro-Am, RD), 18th Chris Young (3rd Pro-Am, RD III), 21st Greg Daffron (RD), 24th Rob Sutherland (1st Am, RD II), 36th Daniel Mills (RD II).
In the feature races, RD’s Greg Daffron finished 3rd and had fastest lap, ahead of 4th James Holman (RD), 11th Martin Shirley (3rd Pro-Am, RD), 12th Rob Sutherland (1st Am, RD II), 13th Matias Pentillä (RD IV), 20th Daniel Mills (RD II), 40th Chris Young (16th in Pro-Am).
“The first race was fantastic,” James told us. “Moving past some of the fastest guys in the championship to go from 7th to 2nd and make it an RD 1-2 was special.
“I managed to keep it clean in race 2, Greg had outstanding pace and nipped me on the line. Greg and I are firmly in the championship hunt, and in the teams we closed on the leaders – it was a good round.
“Rob winning both races in the Amateur category was great, and Martin was on for 2 out of 2 in Pro-Am until a small incident cost him a few seconds, so it was good night for the team.”
You can watch the Daytona races here on YouTube. Next week (Wednesday 15 January), the series moves to Okayama, Japan for another sprint and feature race.
