Weltch Media-backed RD Simsport racing is third in the team standings after an eventful opening round of the Backfire Simsport TCR Challenge this week (Wednesday 18 December) at Road America, USA.
Main RD Simsport team members Greg Daffron finished 3rd in the sprint race and 7th in the feature race, James Holman finished 17th (from 46th – having missed qualifying and started at the back of a very big grid!) and 11th, and Martin Shirley was 31st and 24th.
At one point, James’s hard-charging drive prompted the commentator to say: “James Holman – what a legend!”
For the RD Simsport II team, Daniel Mills had a pole, 2nd place and 4th place, Rob Sutherland had a DNF and a 27th (from 46th), Rob Jackson had a 28th and 28th (was 3rd in the amateur class in race 2).
The results leave the main team 3rd in the team standings, and the 2nd team 6th. Daniel is 2nd and Greg 4th in the individual standings.
James told us: “I was frustrated to miss qualifying, but salvaged a reasonable set of results, got unlucky with the 2nd race and misreading the [refuelling] strategy. I think we would’ve had a solid top 5 result without that, as the pace was good. I’m looking forward to Oschersleben, one of my favourite tracks.”
