Our national hot rod racer Mark Shelper found his car spun around, ripping off the spoiler and ending his race at Aldershot yesterday (Sunday 13 October).

The incident happened in the second heat of the meeting, where Bristol-based Mark was seeking to kick-start his qualifying campaign for the 2025 world championship.

He started on the outside at a restart after a race stoppage. “I thought I left enough room for the car in third place,” said Mark. “But it seems not, as halfway round the bend, I got spun into the pack which ripped the spoiler off.”

In the first heat, he was running fourth, when the race was stopped. He stayed inside for NASCAR-style restart [where drivers can choose the inside or outside line]. “But with people on the outside, it dropped me back to front of pack 2 on restart. I got a little shove wide after that, and the pack went past”.

The team managed to fix a temporary repair on the spoiler to make the final race, where Mark picked up some valuable points by finishing 11th.

The Weltch Media logo has been on Mark’s Peugeot 206cc since the start of the 2022 season, continuing our long-standing involvement in motorsport.

Bristol-based Mark made headlines in 2022 by being the only driver from the South West to qualify for the world championship final.

National hot rods are the top level of short track racing in the UK, with sophisticated lightweight sports/production-car replicas whose engines produce around 240bhp.
