Our sponsored player Danni Wyatt praised another good performance from her Torquay United Women teammates after a 2-0 defeat by league leaders Exeter City last night [Thursday 22 February].
The game was switched to Exeter, as local pitches were waterlogged, and the fixture fell on the day Torquay United announced the club was entering administration.
But United played well to hold high-flying Exeter to a single goal in each half.
“It was another good performance from us last night,” said Danni. “We worked our game plan well and it was only a well worked open goal from City that put us behind in the first half, then to concede a questionable penalty in the second, we can come away with our heads held high with a performance like that against the league leaders.
“Credit to our friends at Exeter, and I hope they go all the way to promotion. South West football is on the rise and we’re all glad to be a part of it, so proud of what [new management team] Tracey [Cross] and Jake [Ellis] have managed to do with this team and thoroughly looking forward to the rest of the season.”
This is Torquay’s first season in the FA National League, which includes the third and fourth tiers of women’s soccer in England. United gained promotion after finishing top of the South West Women’s League Premier Division last season.
We first sponsored Danni in the 2017/18 campaign, when she helped Torquay to third place in the league and to the final of the Devon Cup, and won the goal of the season award.
In 2022, she helped Torquay to a sensational victory in the Devon FA Cup Final and was named club player of the season.
And in 2020, she was among our friends who featured in the popular comedy promo video With a T.
