The highly acclaimed stage play based on the best-selling novel The Beekeeper of Aleppo is touring the UK and stopped off in Cardiff this week (March 28 – April 1).
Our companion hyperlocal site Rhiwbina Info was at the New Theatre on Tuesday to review the opening night.
The reviewer, our senior consultant Andy Weltch, described it as “a challenging play, which takes the audience on an emotional – as well as a physical – journey. It’s a story of violence, loss, and exploitation. But there’s also compassion, love, and hope”.
It tells the story of a couple fleeing war-torn Syria to be reunited with a cousin in the UK.
He concluded: “It’s powerful, thought-provoking, and moving. I urge you to see it if you can.”
The Beekeeper of Aleppo is in Cardiff until Saturday, when the tour continues to Shrewbury, Dublin, Salford, and Glasgow, in April.
