Our sponsored hot rod racer Mark Shelper has delivered a huge boost to his bid for world championship qualification and to his Big Moose charity campaign for mental health and suicide prevention.
Mark took the 788 Peugeot 206cc to second and fourth place in the heat races at Aldershot yesterday (Sunday 25 September) before finishing second in the final.
“It was a good day with some very good results,” Mark told us. “Me and dad (dad especially put a lot of time in) [that’s ex-hot rod racer Alan Shelper] put a lot of time in swapping the axle as it was bent again (which was the struggle in Ipswich we think) and changing a few things.
“It was a little bit of a struggle in heat one, but we made changes between all the races and got the car better. The final was hard work keeping all the quick ones behind but luckily it was a bit ‘one-line’ so they couldn’t get past.
Weltch Media is sponsoring Mark £1 towards his Big Moose mental-health appeal for every qualifying point he scores this year. If you would like to contribute or spread the word, here is the link.
Last month, DAS UK Group generously donated £150 to the appeal.
The Weltch Media logo has been on Mark’s Peugeot 206cc since the start of this season, continuing our long-standing involvement in motorsport. In the past we have supported Ben Power in the UK Legends Car Championship and James Holman in the Irish Championship. We’ve also backed James in several online iRacing events, and in 2018 we teamed up with Mendips Raceway to present the Weltch Media West of England Hot Rod Championship.
National hot rods are the top level of short track racing in the UK, with sophisticated lightweight production car replicas whose engines produce around 240bhp.
