Our New York client, Dr Golbarg Bashi, the founder of ethical social-impact startup, Dr Bashi™ has been nominated for a prestigious US toy industry award.
The professor-mom is shortlisted for the Designer/Inventor category at the Women In Toys ‘Wonder Woman’ Awards.
Fellow nominees include executives at major corporations, such as Disney, Mattel, Lego, and Hasbro.
The awards will be presented at a Gala event at the Grand Hyatt, in New York City, on February 14th.
Golbarg Bashi launched her business, Dr Bashi™, in 2013 as a social impact educational venture based on ethical, earth-friendly and gender/race-conscious principles to introduce, for the first time, a type of Fröbelgaben into the culture of Arabic and Persian-speaking childhood and early education.
Together with award winning typographer Koroush Beigpour, Golbarg created the world’s first pedagogically-advanced wooden blocks in Arabic and Persian languages, made ethically in Vermont, USA and designed to help develop fine motor and cognitive skills in children as well as promote literacy and bilingualism.
She combines her business activities with her roles as a Professor of History at Pace University and as a mother to two young children.
The founding principal partner of New York’s Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA) for the “Persian Festival” in the museum’s prestigious Multicultural Performing Arts Series, Dr. Bashi holds a weekly bilingual story time in an independent bookstore in Manhattan, and also collaborates with the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
“I am deeply committed to creating ethically and environmentally sound educational toys because the human environmental footprint is already weighing too heavily on our planet,” said Golbarg.
“My mission is to introduce and endear children to their mother-tongue or second language from infancy, all the while they are developing fine and gross motor skills and cognitive concepts, and enhance adult-child social interaction in the age of iPads. And I remain committed to this mission based on uncompromising ethical and earth friendly practices.
“To be nominated for a Wonder Woman Award is a huge honour, and I am grateful to WIT for recognizing my work in this way.”
